Well our new city council members took their post tonight. I hope that things will move in a positive direction.
There are several issues the new council needs to address after being ignored by previous councils.
1 sidewalk Liability - If you were not aware; home owners are responsible for any maintenance and liability for the sidewalks in front of their homes. The city was desperate when they did this originally but things have changed and so should this law.
2 Main Street Bridge Repairs - A previous council tried to tell us all how dangerous the Main St Bridge was. After testing it was discovered that the bridge was sound but needed some repairs. They have not been done.
3 Records Keeping - In the past our city has failed to keep the proper records. What is being done to correct this?
4 Open Government - 2 Years ago we were told by the council that they would updating their website and allow us access to more of the city's financial doings. We are still waiting. We also should address the issues of council members doing things that are not out in the open. We must make sure that council members are not taking advantage of their positions to gain access to public property and use it for their own personal and financial gain.
5 Spanish Community - The city council claims they want the Spanish speaking community to get more involved but, they make it very difficult. They could easily add a Google or Microsoft translation button to their website. This would at least allow these citizens access to the city website at no cost and very little effort. They also need to provide a live translation of their meetings. We did it on CitizenAccess.TV so we know it is possible. These seem like two easy and obvious ways to get these people involved with their government.

Many people will say that with the election of Donald Trump we have bigger things to worry about. That may be true but all we can do is worry. THAT'S ALL!
But we can improve the conditions of the community we live in.

I wish the entire city council good luck and to Fight The Good Fight. We are counting on you.

    And To Everyone Else
