Cartel Management, CM, seems to be having a cash flow issues. You can bypass my take on all of this and figure it out for yourself by downloading and reading the two documents attached to this post. Last summer, CM applied for a permit with the San Mateo Count Harbor District, SMCHD. CM wants to use SMCHD resources and the SMCHD wants access to the Marsh Parking lot restricted. That is pretty much it. There are details though. The agreement reached between the SMCHD and CM stipulated that CM do the following things prior to January 1st, 2015. 1) CM was to pay the SMCHD $11,600.00. Today I was told by a SMCHD employee that the payment was not made until January 14th, 2015. 2) The permit was to run from January 1st, 2015 to March 31st, 2015. Zoe Lee of Cartel Management signed it the same day that they made the payment. A week later, Cassandra Clark of Mavericks Invitational signed the permit. The next day, January 22, 2015, Scott Grindy of the SMCHD signed the permit. 3) Grindy should not have signed the permit. The permit requires two major things of CM. Pay the fee and provide a certificate of insurance. Per a PRA request, I have obtained the certificate of insurance. The insurance was not purchased until January 27th, 2015. The certificate was issued the next day. Grindy should not have even issued the permit without the certificate. Because Cartel Management made the payments late, got the permit late, and obtained insurance late, the window for the Titans Of Mavericks contest was shortened by a month. One has to wonder, what the hell were the locals who think they own the wave were, doing. Jeff Clark is fond of saying that Mavericks will take care of itself. The finicky wave will of course do that. The event and the reputations of all involved however, have been tarnished. Griffin Guess bamboozled the Mavericks Clique with promises of respect and treasure. He was going to take care of the surfers. Going to make them rich. Going to elevate their profile. Griffin Guess promised them all he would use his extensive network of contacts and skills to push Mavericks to the next level. Looks like in a way, he kept his promise. Mavericks has gone from a dream to a contest and is now looking like a scam. It was a beautiful thing. Now, its a sad joke.
